Why L Murugan was given Cabinet berth by Modi?

BJP Tamilnadu president L Murugan today joined the Union Cabinet as a Minister of State. He was party’s Tamil Nadu unit president for last 16 months. In TN assembly elections, he contested from Dharapuram constituency and lost by a margin of just 1,393 votes.

Murugan said, ‘It is a rare opportunity to serve the people of Tamil Nadu. What is given to me is not a responsibility but a service.’

Ahead of elections, Murugan had also caused widespread discussion by a Vel Yatra, taken out throughout the State. Murugan is also the second leader from Dalit community to head the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP.

Meanwhile, as Murugan has assumed office as an Union minister, there are many names doing the rounds for the next president of the State unit.
