The heartbreaking incident of 26-year-old Anna Sebastian has brought attention to the serious problem of stress at work. Tragically, Anna, an Ernst & Young India employee, passed away as a result of the extreme pressure of a toxic work environment.

Opposition leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi reached out to Anna’s mother, expressing his condolences and promising to advocate for change. He shared online, “I spoke with the heartbroken parents of Anna Sebastian, a bright and ambitious young professional whose life was tragically cut short by toxic and unforgiving work conditions,” sharing a video of their conversation.

In their conversation, Anna’s mother spoke up about the impact that continuous demands and long working hours had on her daughter. She said, tears in her eyes, “She would call me every night, saying, ‘Amma, I can’t talk, I’m dead tired.'” Anna’s mother added, “Kids are made to work like slaves even after independence,” about how frequently young workers are stressed out.

Mr. Gandhi listened intently and offered to raise this pressing issue in Parliament. The family expressed their support for his efforts, hoping for change that could prevent such tragedies in the future.

Ernst & Young responded to Anna’s tragic demise with words of deep sorrow and reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing working conditions. Additionally, the Union Labour Ministry has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her loss.

Anna’s decision is a wake-up call for all of us. It underscores the urgent need for work-life balance and corporate accountability in India.
