Director Atlee appeared on the finale of Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 2 alongside Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi to promote their film Baby John. However, a joke by Kapil Sharma about Atlee’s looks did not sit well with the audience.

Kapil asked the director, “Has it ever happened that you met a star, and they didn’t recognize you? Did they ask, ‘Where is Atlee?’” Though Atlee appeared uncomfortable, he responded gracefully, emphasizing the importance of valuing people for their hearts and work rather than their looks. Atlee credited AR Murugadoss for giving him his first break, stating, “He didn’t judge my appearance but loved my narration.”

Social media erupted with criticism, with users calling the comedian out for insensitive humor. One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Kapil Sharma’s jokes are nothing but body shaming and outdated uncleji humor.”
