The movie Amaran has captured hearts across the globe. Audiences walk out of theaters teary-eyed after watching the brave story of Major Mukund, a recipient of the Ashoka Chakra and a war hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2014. The film has crossed an impressive Rs 150 crore at the box office, but not without sparking some debate.

While many praise the film for its emotional depth, some fans are upset by the decision to leave out Major Mukund’s caste (Iyengar) in the portrayal of his life.

Amaran caste controversy news

At a success celebration event in Chennai, director Rajkumar Periasamy addressed the issue, shedding light on why caste was not mentioned. He shared how Mukund’s wife, Indhu, and his parents made it clear that they wanted Mukund to be remembered as an Indian and a Tamilian, not defined by his caste.

Rajkumar revealed that Indhu wanted an actor with deep Tamil roots, and Mukund’s parents stressed that he always wanted to be known simply as an Indian.

He added that, for him, caste was never a part of the story. All focus was on honoring Mukund’s bravery and sacrifice, not his caste. The film keeps the spotlight on his journey and the love of his family, without getting distracted by caste references.

Amaran keeps winning hearts with its genuine and emotional portrayal of a real-life hero.
