Top Tamil Box Office Grossers of 2024: Vijay’s GOAT, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, and More

Tamil cinema had a challenging year in 2024, with only a handful of films achieving box office success. Leading the pack is Thalapathy Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), which emerged as the year’s highest grosser, collecting over ₹252 crore.

In second place is Rajkumar Periasamy’s Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi. The film, based on Major Mukund Vardarajan and his wife Indhu, has amassed ₹189 crore in 18 days and is expected to surpass ₹200 crore soon. Despite competition, Amaran maintained strong momentum, outperforming Suriya’s Kanguva, which has struggled to cross ₹50 crore.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan claims the third spot with a ₹147 crore collection. Despite high expectations following Jailer and the inclusion of Amitabh Bachchan, the film underperformed at the box office.

Dhanush’s directorial debut, Raayan, sits in fourth place, garnering ₹95 crore with its emotional storyline and gripping action sequences.

On the other hand, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, despite earning ₹81 crore, failed to meet expectations. The sequel faced criticism from fans and critics alike, and plans for its third installment have reportedly been shelved, with a direct OTT release now in the works.
