Box Office Performance Struggles
Disney’s Snow White live-action remake, which premiered worldwide on March 21, has had a disappointing start at the box office. Despite its massive $250 million budget, the film only managed to collect $87.3 million globally in its opening weekend—far below its $100 million debut target.
Domestically, Snow White earned $43 million, securing the No. 1 spot at the box office but missing its projected $45 million minimum. International markets contributed $44.3 million, further reflecting the film’s struggle to generate strong audience interest.

However, with no major competition until Minecraft: The Movie arrives on April 4, Disney hopes the film will follow the slow-but-steady success of Mufasa: The Lion King, which opened to $35 million but has now crossed $700 million worldwide.
Controversies Impact Film’s Reception
Directed by Marc Webb, Snow White has faced criticism since its inception. The film sparked backlash over its casting, with some fans opposing the decision to have Colombian-American actress Rachel Zegler play the iconic princess. Additional controversies include Disney’s reimagining of the seven dwarfs and debates surrounding Gal Gadot’s political views.
Meanwhile, other films also struggled. The Alto Knights opened to just $3.2 million domestically, while Magazine Dreams flopped with only $700,000 in earnings. With Snow White already under scrutiny, its long-term box office performance remains uncertain.
