Suriya and director Siva’s Kanguva faced a significant drop in box office collections on its first Monday, November 18. After grossing nearly Rs 140 crore worldwide in its opening weekend, the film saw a sharp decline, earning only Rs 3.15 crore nett in India on Day 5, as per early trade reports.
Despite a grand start on November 14, Kanguva has struggled to maintain momentum. Mixed reviews from audiences since its debut appear to have impacted its performance. Studio Green, the production house, claims the film is doing well, but box office figures paint a different picture.

- Day 1: Rs 24 crore
- Day 2: Rs 9.5 crore
- Day 3: Rs 9.85 crore
- Day 4: Rs 10.25 crore
- Day 5: Rs 3.15 crore
- Total: Rs 56.75 crore
The Tamil version recorded just 14.23% occupancy on November 18.
Hindi Market Performance
The film’s Hindi version also underperformed, earning only Rs 10 crore nett in four days, despite the producer KE Gnanavel Raja’s pre-release hype.
Criticism and Defense
Kanguva faced criticism for its screenplay and loud background score. However, Jyotika, Suriya’s wife, defended the film, claiming that its flaws were exaggerated as part of a planned smear campaign.
