Suriya’s much-anticipated film Kanguva has turned out to be a shocking disappointment. Expected to be a monumental comeback for the star, the movie’s performance at the box office has fallen far short of expectations, especially in the USA.

Underwhelming North America Collections

Despite being an epic film, Kanguva has only managed to collect $715,227 in North America as of Tuesday. Comparatively, even Tier 2 Telugu heroes’ lighthearted films easily cross the million-dollar mark in the region.

The Tamil and Telugu versions were collectively valued at $2.5 million, while the Hindi version’s break-even point was set at $800K—a benchmark that now seems out of reach.

Language-Wise Box Office Breakdown

Interestingly, the pan-India film showed a surprising performance in the Hindi belt:

• Hindi: $208,422

While the Telugu version came close to matching the Tamil version, the Hindi contribution stood out with over $200K—an unexpected result for a regional film underperforming in its primary markets.

Typically, when Tamil or Telugu films like Kanguva struggle at the box office, their Hindi versions also tend to flop. However, this film defied the trend by garnering unexpected interest from the Hindi-speaking audience, showcasing their growing inclination towards South Indian cinema.
