The blockbuster Amaran has been a smashing success at the box office, grossing ₹300 crores. Starring Sivakarthikeyan as the lead in a biopic of Major Mukund, one of the film’s standout reasons for its acclaim is Sai Pallavi’s exceptional performance.
However, controversy erupted when fans created a celebratory poster for the milestone that excluded Sai Pallavi. The poster quickly went viral, triggering an online debate over the exclusion of the actress, who played a pivotal role in the movie’s success.
Singer Chinmayi Sripada weighed in, criticizing the lack of representation for female stars in such instances. “One of the most talented and beloved female artists in the South will still not find space in a success poster, shoulder to shoulder with a man,” she remarked. Chinmayi further referenced Sai Pallavi’s iconic Rowdy Baby performance to highlight her consistent contributions to cinema. Despite learning that the poster was fan-made, Chinmayi stood by her comments, sparking further discussion.
The controversy also shed light on a recurring issue in the industry: male insecurity when female stars like Sai Pallavi outshine their co-stars. In the case of Amaran, many fans believe Sai Pallavi’s commanding presence overshadowed Sivakarthikeyan’s noteworthy performance, despite his equally stellar contribution to the film.
The debate surrounding this fan-made poster has reignited discussions about gender dynamics in the South Indian film industry and the recognition female stars deserve.
