Scarlett Johansson has addressed the persistent rumor that she and Benicio Del Toro had an intimate encounter in an elevator after the 2004 Oscars. Speaking on TheSkimm’s 9 to 5ish podcast, the actress described the claim as “outrageous,” adding that the logistics alone made it implausible.

“That was a story that followed me for a long time,” Scarlett admitted. “The logistics of that seem so unappealing to me. I’m a person who’s terrified of being caught doing something I’m not supposed to be doing.”

The rumor, which alleged that a 19-year-old Scarlett and a 37-year-old Del Toro hooked up in a Chateau Marmont elevator, gained traction due to Del Toro’s cryptic comments in an Esquire interview. When asked about the incident, he responded vaguely, “Let’s leave that to somebody’s imagination.”

Scarlett, however, addressed the rumor head-on during an interview with Allure. She dismissed the claim with humor, saying, “Apparently, there was somebody with us in an elevator, and we were making out or having sex or something, which I think is very unsanitary.”

The actress, now a mother of two, balances her family life and thriving career. Married to comedian Colin Jost, Scarlett welcomed their son Cosmo in August last year. Jost humorously revealed on The Late Show that the hospital assigned the baby’s name, joking, “They’re just like, ‘Urgh, that’s Frank, go.’”
