Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran Nears ₹80 Cr, Aims for ₹200 Cr Global
7 November 2024, 6:03 pmIn Tamil cinema, Sivakarthikeyan is emerging as the next big superstar, following the ranks of Rajinikanth, Thalapathy Vijay, and Ajith Kumar. These three veterans have been instrumental in the industry’s global growth, with their films consistently crossing the ₹300 crore mark worldwide and earning ₹100-150 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. For instance, Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Vijay’s Leo reportedly grossed around ₹200 crore each, while Kamal Haasan’s Vikram set a high bar with ₹400 crore globally. However, Kamal’s subsequent film Indian 2 struggled, reflecting the challenges of maintaining a consistent ₹100 crore streak in Tamil Nadu.
While Rajinikanth, Vijay, and Ajith firmly hold the top three spots, speculation surrounds the fourth position. Many now believe Sivakarthikeyan has secured this place. His recent hits, including Doctor, Don, and Maaveeran, have been lucrative for distributors and theater owners. Although his Pongal release Ayalaan faced mixed reception due to its prolonged 8-year production, it still managed to gross ₹50 crore in Tamil Nadu.
Currently, Sivakarthikeyan’s latest release, Amaran, is making waves. Since its Diwali release, the film has grossed ₹15 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu and ₹71 crore in just four days. By its fifth day, it is nearing the ₹80 crore mark. Industry experts predict Amaran will surpass ₹120 crore in Tamil Nadu and ₹200 crore globally by the end of its theatrical run, solidifying Sivakarthikeyan’s rise in Tamil cinema.
