However, Vidaamuyarchi has been mired in controversy long before its release. Initially rumored to be a remake of the 1997 Hollywood thriller Breakdown, the film faced legal hurdles when the original producers demanded ₹150 crore for rights. After negotiations, Lyca Productions reportedly settled for ₹11 crore, agreeing to a profit-sharing deal.

Following the first screenings, fans and critics noticed striking similarities between Vidaamuyarchi and another Hollywood film, Last Seen Alive. This has raised fresh concerns about potential copyright issues. If the makers of Last Seen Alive take legal action, Vidaamuyarchi might face serious repercussions.
