BCCI to Announce New Player Retention Rules Ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction
26 September 2024, 6:39 pmBig news for IPL fans! The BCCI is all set to roll out a fresh set of rules for player retention before the much-awaited mega auction, which could take place outside India this November.
You read that right! Indian Express sources indicate that IPL teams may be allowed to keep up to five players, although the Right to Match (RTM) option may be eliminated.
During a recent meeting at the BCCI headquarters with the owners of all 10 IPL teams, the majority of the franchises expressed a preference to hold onto five to six key players to maintain team stability and star power.
The last IPL mega auction was held in 2018 and again in 2022, with teams showing a clear preference for long-term stability over constant reshuffling.
As CSK fans eagerly follow the updates, one question keeps coming up: could MS Dhoni play this IPL 2025 as an uncapped player? Thoughts have been circulating over Dhoni’s future, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quick to deny these claims. However, if the uncapped player rule is brought back, Thala Dhoni may wear yellow for another season!
Mumbai Indians hope to hold onto their best players despite Hardik Pandya’s difficult season. They are not alone, either! The top performances are being targeted for retention by major league teams including Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR’s co-owner, Shah Rukh Khan, even suggested delaying the major auction to maintain squad consistency.
