SW monsoon withdraws from country, NE monsoon sets in over TN, Pondy

The Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the country and the Northeast monsoon has set in over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry onMonday, the met office said.

Met office in a bullet in said in view of significant reduction in rainfall activity over most parts of the country, the Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country today.

“Simultaneously with the setting in of northeasterly winds in the lower tropospheric levels, the Northeast monsoon rains has commenced over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area and adjoining areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe today”, it said.

The met office said the state received above average rainfall during the southwest monsoon.

Under the influence of Northeast monsoon, heavy rains were likely to occur for the next five days in Cauvery delta districts and southern districts of the State.
