English skipper Joe Root scored another ton as he amassed 121 runs to put England in strong position on day two of third Test against India.

Dawid Malan and Joe Root then put on 139 for the third wicket.

Malan, playing his first Test for two years, made 70, before getting a thin edge down the leg side.

As usual, he was particularly strong through the off side.

In the morning session, pacer Mohammed Shami had accounted for Rory Burns (61), while left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Haseeb Hameed (68).

England resumed this morning on 120-0, after bowling out India 78 on day one.

It was slow going with India’s bowling, particularly that of Jasprit Bumrah’s, being much better.

Mohammed Shami got Rory Burns in the first hour, before Ravindra Jadeja got Haseeb Hameed.

On Wednesday, England had dismissed India for a paltry 78 in 40.4 overs.
