Coimbatore Flyover Projects Stuck Due to High Costs, No Bidders
1 February 2025, 2:54 pmOverview: Coimbatore’s flyover projects, including Saravanampatti and Singanallur, are facing delays and rising costs, leaving uncertainty over their completion.
Coimbatore’s flyover projects are facing serious delays. The city’s plans to build new flyovers are stuck due to rising costs and a lack of interested construction firms.
Singanallur Flyover: No Bidders
The Singanallur flyover project, expected to cost Rs 141 crore, has faced trouble finding construction firms. The cost of materials has gone up, and firms have asked for a higher budget. The government is working on a new proposal and hopes to issue a fresh tender in April 2025.
Saravanampatti Flyover: Metro Plans Complicated
The Saravanampatti flyover project is delayed because it clashes with plans for a metro corridor along the same road. Coimbatore MP Ganapathy P Rajkumar said the government is working to fix this by building both the flyover and the metro at the same time. The survey for the project is already in progress.

The delays in these flyover projects are holding back Coimbatore’s growth. If the issues with the Singanallur flyover and the Saravanampatti flyover aren’t resolved soon, it could take longer for the city to have the needed infrastructure to improve traffic and connectivity.
