With just days left for Tamilnadu Assembly’s budget session, PMK and Naam Tamizhar Katchi have urged the State government to take steps to release all the seven life convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss urged the Tamilnadu government to make fresh recommendations to the Governor based on the recent Supreme Court guidelines for the release of all the convicts.

In a statement here, he said the Supreme Court in an order on a petition filed by a Haryana-based life convict, had stated that the Governor has the powers to release the convict based on the State Cabinet recommendations even if the convict had not completed 14 years jail term.
